image6The servers in this tier are the high-end enterprise servers for those larger companies that have a massive need for constant storage space and easy management of that space. The FAS6040 and the FAS6080 are top of the line machines perfect for technical computing and large enterprises. Both offer 6PCI-X and 10PCI Express expansion slots, 16×4 GB onboard ports and 56 maximum ports, and FC and SATA disk types. Both of the systems also use Data ONTAP software as their operating system. They support the following operating systems as well – Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows XP, Linux, Sun Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, Mac OS, VMware, ESX.

The FAS6040 is equal to the IBM 2866-G11 (N7700), and it features 840 TB of storage capacity. It offers a maximum of 840 disk drives and 32 GB of memory. NetApp’s FAS6080 is the same as IBM 2867-A11 (N7800). It offers 1,176 TB of storage space, and 1,176 disk drives. It features 64 GB of memory, which is double that of the FAS6040.

The standard software features include integrated automatic RAID manager, including RAID-DP, Snapshot, Fast Boot, telnet, e-mail alerts, NIS, DNS, SNMP, FilerView, SNMP, FlexVolFlexShare, SSH, Maintenance Center, and Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP). Licensed software products that are part of these systems include FlexClone, FlexCache, MultiStore, SnapMirror, SnapRestore, SnapDrive, SnapManager for Microsoft Exchange, SnapManager for Microsoft SQL Server,SnapManager for Oracle, Single Mailbox Recovery, SnapVault, SnapMover, SnapLock Compliance, SnapLock Enterprise, SyncMirror, MetroCluster, CommandCentral Storage, Protection Manager, File Storage Resource Manager, SAN Manager, Operations Manager, ApplianceWatch for HP Openview, and ApplianceWatch for Tivoli.

The standard hardware features include: ROHS-compliant, full-duplex 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet onboard console, diagnostic LED/LCD, Remote LAN Management (RLM) Card standard, redundant hot-plug cooling fans, redundant hot-plug power supplies, Compact Flash, 19″ rack-mount enclosure, and optional 220 V 42U 19″ system cabinet.
